I have a Levenger "editor's desk" http://www.levenger.com/PAGETEMPLATES/PRODUCT/Product.asp?Params=Category=5-24|Level=2-3|PageID=5416 and find it's very comfortable for writing, editing, and reading. It sits on top of my regular desk. I expect there must be less expensive versions out there somewhere. You might try a slant-topped desk.
