Especially Zebra Cadoozles, half size plastic mechanical pencils that look like wooden pencils!!!? £2.50 for ten in Asda in UK, more expensive on Doane Paper site for US readers. The first pencil I thought was cool was the Staedtler lead holder and it's still available 30 years later but I dont use one now. Perhaps i should buy one and take a trip down memory lane. Of course I also love pens of various shpaes, sizes, colurs and ink types, but then who doesn't? I use pencils often. usually mechanical pencils. All my journaling is done in pen, but I decided to start using pencils at work for taking notes during meetings and as I'm working on things. It gives me an excuse to use the many different pencils I've collected, and has caused me to be seen as a bit of an eccentric at work (not necessarily a bad thing). People are especially intrigued by the small ink-bottle pencil sharpener I carry with me to meetings and keep on my desk (there's not another pencil sharpener in the whole ofice, as far as I know). I rediscovered a love of woodcase pencils a few years ago and started collecting them. I love woodcased pencils, I have a lovely soft graphite clutch and a Jotter mechanical pencil that I adore.. they're a far more important part of the arsenal than a ballpoint (yuck.) Smooth, somewhat old-fashioned, impermanent, allows you to move from writing to drawing in an instant... it's very nice indeed. :) I think pencil/pen is still a 50-50 thing for me.
